CAR-SHARING & RENTAL SERVICES
Car2Go
A car-sharing service in Seattle that offers a fleet of about 250 tiny Smart Cars for use by its members--an economical and environmental alternative to owning a car. The service works on a GPS system that shows members where available cars are located throughout the city. Cars can be reserved for up to 30 minutes prior to use or taken spontaneously and can be parked for free in any legal parking space in the city, with a minimum 2-hour limit (see website for other parking rules and restrictions). To sign up, the cost is a one-time $35 application fee, then you pay for only the time you are using the car ($1 per trip, plus $0.41/minute, $14.99/hour, or $84.99/day). Gas, insurance, and parking fees are all included.

Turo
A car rental service that allows car owners to rent out their personal vehicles to members for sometimes surprisingly low daily rates. The car owners set their rates, and cars have to meet certain safety and cleanliness standards set by the company. Members are screened with background checks for security, and car owners can choose whom they let rent their cars based on member profiles and feedback from other owners. It's the Airbnb for cars! Sign up through this link and get $25 off your first rental!

Zipcar
A car-sharing service in Seattle that provides a variety of vehicles in dedicated parking spots throughout the city. Cars range in type from fuel-efficient Mini Coopers and hybrids to SUVs and full-size cargo vans to suit all your driving or hauling needs. Cars are reserved by members by the hour or day and then returned to the same parking space at the end of the reservation time. There is a one-time application fee of $25 and a few different plans starting at $7/month or $70/year. Driving rates start at $8/hour or $73/day. Gas and insurance are included, with optional liability coverage available. Sign up through this link and get $25 of driving credit!

TAXI CAB SERVICES
Lyft
Lyft is an alternative to traditional cab services where drivers use their personal vehicles to give rides throughout the city. Members find and pay for rides through an app on their mobile devices. It's available 24/7 and rates are shown upfront. Sign up through this link and get $30 towards your first ride! Lyft vehicles can be recognized by the pink glow-in-the-dark mustaches displayed on drivers' dashboards.

Sidecar
Sidecar is a similar service to both Lyft and Uber, where drivers use their personal vehicles for providing rides to members, and all transactions are done through mobile apps. Sidecar advertises that it is the lowest cost service of its kind and allows riders to choose rides based on prices, as well as other features, such as extra seating, snacks, and water. Ride fares can be cut in half with Sidecar's newest service, Shared Rides, which allows riders going in the same direction to share the cost of the ride, but not yet available in Seattle.)

Uber
Uber is a fast-growing alternative to taxi cabs. By using cell phone apps, riders can quickly and easily find drivers, and the rate is given upfront, with the tip included (which is usually cheaper than traditional cabs). Riders set up an account in advance, and the fees are automatically charged to their credit cards, offering a convenient, hassle-free alternative for the car-free! Sign up through this link and get your first ride (up to $20) for free! Then refer friends and get more free rides! You can also sign up to be a driver, if you so desire.
